Along the White Pass Train Route – Monochrome Madness
One of the highlights of our Alaskan Cruise last year was being able to take the train along the White Pass and Yukon Rail Route. We began our journey in thick forest, gradually moving into this desolate, bleak landscape.
Looking out at this lonely landscape, it was incredible to think not only how this railroad could be built in the late 1800’s but how it was built so quickly, taking just over two years!
Interestingly enough, finding laborers wasn’t difficult for this project despite the look of this landscape. The majority of laborers were college graduates working for the grand sum of 30 cents an hour (oh how times have changed!).
Now as to our next train trip… “mum, how much longer?”
