Summer Stunner! (OWPC – Hippo)

How gorgeous is this beauty, sunny themself near the water’s edge. Having only ever seen hippopotamuses standing in the waters of Africa, this was the first time I’d ever seen a hippopotamus out of water. It was incredible!

The turkey vultures standing nearby a little off-putting however. Are they standing guard or waiting for the meat to bake in the midday sun I wonder?

Hippo is the One Word Photo Challenge this week from Jennifer Nichole Wells.

Animal Kingdom… OH MY!!!

Today was spent at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and what can I say… it ABSOLUTELY BLEW OUR MINDS – it was simply brilliant!

But where do I begin? Perhaps the Tree of Life which greeted us as we first looked into the park and seemed to be always in our peripheral. How many animals can you see “carved” into the tree?

Tree of Life

We loved so many of the African animals, particularly these three wise men.

Three Wise Men

We first saw these next guys only a few days ago in New York at the Natural History Museum but here they were now – alive and well!

Who or what are we

Then there was this next adorable creature…

Huh???

On our “African Safari” this sun-baking beauty caught our eye…

Holy Hippo!!!

Then there was this family!

Don't mess with these dudes!

I should be embarrassed to say, but I’m not, that I was more excited than the children on seeing Kim Possible’s friend Ron’s, Naked Mole Rats!

Naked Mole Rats are so darn cute!

But we were ALL excited with this gentleman!

Big is Beautfiul!

We waited and waited for the Meerkats to stand up as one always tends to see in all the shows but it wasn’t to be… lucky they’re cute!

MeerKat

And we loved the originality of these two Asian birds…

Oh my, love the head dress!

But could this be the result of animal overload???

Love these Kooks!

Yes, there were loads more animals we saw and loads more that we did: Tricera Top Spin, Primeval Whirl, It’s Tough to be a Bug, Kali River Rapids, Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade, even Finding Nemo – the Musical but what really had my head exploding was… the Everest Expedition!

(Yes, that’s me in the top left-hand corner – I rate this ride the same as the Green Lantern at Movie World… ugly… very ugly indeed).

Scary Friggin Everest!

All I could think of whilst on this ride was… “mum, how much longer?”
