Looking down my garden path (JNW’s Halloween Challenge – Autumn)

How lucky are we to have this Red Maple Tree in our very own back yard? Its fall colours are so bright and beautiful against the green grass and the rock path.

Autumn is today’s Challenge Word with  Jennifer Nichole Wells Halloween Challenge.

The Colour of Fall!

My favourite color!

It is SO the first day of fall!

The first day of fall and how apt is that terminology as we’ve already had our first SNOW FALL for the year… woo hoo!

September First

Granted the snow is only on my mountain peak but it’s SNOW. Oh yes, I am SO doing the happy dance right now!!! 🙂

2014 – WHAT a YEAR!

Spiced Pumpkin Cookies

Waking up yet again to the sound of rain falling hard outside, combined with the fact it was Saturday, had me in no hurry to get out of bed. As I lay pondering the day before me, visions of sugar-plums danced in my head.

Well, not exactly sugar-plums but the thought of straight-out-of the-oven Spiced Pumpkin Cookies did. So much so eventually I had to make my way to the kitchen to make me a batch!

Spiced Pumpkin Cookies

2½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg
½ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp salt
½ cup butter, softened
1½ cups white sugar
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350F.

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt; set aside.

In a medium bowl, cream together the ½ cup of butter and white sugar.

Add pumpkin, egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla to butter mixture, and beat until creamy. Mix in dry ingredients.

Drop on cookie sheet by the teaspoon. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.

Cool and enjoy… if you can wait that long!

At the suggestion of Miss Eleven, with the next batch each cookie is going to be rolled in white sugar before being placed on the cookie sheet.

Regardless, half of this batch has already disappeared. Even now I can hear the cookie jar lid being lifted off so as to the remainder of the cookies… “mum, how much longer?”

Pinch and a Punch ALREADY!

I don’t know about the children but whilst THEY’VE been out on Summer Vacation, the days have absolutely flown by for me!

Here it is September First already. Summer is over, whilst Fall truly makes its presence felt!

With all the wind and rain we’ve had of late, this cartoon by Juan Carlos Partidas seemed almost like a weather forecast, oops!

Fall has arrived by Juan Carlos Partidas

And with fall comes the beginning of a new school year, or does it?

The announcement of whether or not BC children are actually returning to school tomorrow is being left until the eleventh hour. So… “mum, how much longer?”

Power to the Pumpkin!

Saturday saw a lot of work taking place at our dining room table. We’d bought a load of pumpkins for ME to actually paint as I was so inspired by the pumpkins we saw at Quebec’s City Hall last year but the children had VERY different ideas, lol!

MMR Operation Carving!

Don’t you just love the “new age” carving with both children wearing their Beats (that’s headphones to the majority of us?)!

HLR Operation Carving

They wanted no assistance and as you can see by the end results, they did EXCEPTIONALLY well!

Halloween Pumpkins doing their thing!

The top pumpkin is Miss Ten’s first pumpkin and my favorite. This is it in daylight!

So obviously the work of a little girl!

I love how the pumpkins “guts” turned green naturally making it look even grosser… “Halloween how much longer?”

Last Leaf Standing!

Looking out my kitchen window today I couldn’t help but notice how our neighbors tree had what I thought, one lone leaf at the very top still hanging on tightly.

On closer inspection I can now what I thought was one large leaf, is actually three smaller leaves.

Last leaf of the year!!!

These leaves look quite young, up to the challenge of the cold weather moving in. Question is though… “mum, how much longer?”

Oh Liz, you were almost TOTALLY nak-ked!

With the rain we’d experienced over the week-end and particularly yesterday, I honestly thought that the last remaining snow clinging tightly to the side of Mount Elizabeth would finally be extinguished. This would have left Liz completely naked!

Lizzy you're almost nak-ked!

But alas, as the rain clouds that had been covering Liz for the last few days lifted late yesterday evening, Liz’s nakedness was not revealed. In fact it was the opposite.

What happened Liz?

Yep, there was snow up there on them there hills. There was snow to the right but this snow I captured this morning is no longer there thanks to today’s sunshine.

Snow to the Right

However, the snow over to the left is still quietly sitting, waiting for more, MUCH MORE!

Snow to the Left

Now we just want snow, serious snow, down here but… “mum, how much longer?”
