The Under Belly (One Four Challenge – Week 4)

Oh how time flies when you are having fun! Here we are at the fourth and final week of the One Four Challenge, hosted by Robyn Gosby from Captivate Me. For this final week I had fun… and lots of it!

For this week I transferred the image to my phone to edit it in Snapseed. For some reason known only to my inner being, I feel completely uninhibited when editing on my phone. One thing, leads to another, which leads to another, and voila!

Obviously I added the grunge filter, and I dare say I’ve done a little of everything else when it comes to brightness, contrast, saturation, ambience, highlights, shadows and warmth. Most likely there a vintage filter has also been used.

Below is a slide-show of all my submissions for November’s One Four Challenge. Hope you’ve had an opportunity to check out everyone’s awesome submissions for this challenge.

Many thanks to Robyn for hosting this fabulous challenge – fingers-crossed it makes a return in 2017!

The Under Belly (One Four Challenge – Week 3)

‘Tis Week 3 of the fabulous One Four Challenge hosted by the lovely Robyn Gosby of Captivate Me.

This week curiosity had me editing to see what my ‘schroom would look like in the ageless sepia tones. Needless to say, it didn’t disappoint.

What was interesting after this edit of converting from colour to sepia was, for me at least, it felt as if I cropped the image which I hadn’t. The only other edits after changing the photograph to sepia, was to bump up the contrast and to straighten the image ever so slightly. Below are my previous week’s submissions for comparison.

Oh, and if you aren’t familiar with the One-Four-Challenge, it’s where you choose one of your own photographs and for four weeks you edit this photo differently each week. It really does makes you think!

The Under Belly (One Four Challenge – Week 1)

WOO HOO, it’s that time once again! Time for another One-Four-Challenge hosted by the lovely Robyn Gosby over at Captivate Me. My love-hate relationship with the challenge will be eternal, lol.

A few weeks ago my neighbour had all these mushrooms randomly appear across his front lawn. Having learnt he’s very “anti” the ‘schroom, the very first opportunity I had on seeing his vehicle driving away (knowing his shovel would soon be out) I was out with my camera. Here is one of ‘schroom’s and my Week 1

Not much was really done for this week’s editing. I’ve cropped it just a little to bring the gills closer as well as bumping up the contrast to also enhance these gills. Then it was just a little tweak to the vibrancy and clarity. As I said, really not much at all.

If you aren’t familiar with the One-Four-Challenge is where you choose one of your own photographs and for four weeks, you edit this photo differently each week. Sounds easy enough but doesn’t always work out that way, lol!

Here is my submission for Week 4 of the One Four Challenge hosted by Robyn Gosby at Captivate Me.

Week 4

Week 4

This week I’ve cropped the photo, bumped up the brightness, deepened the colour in the flowers, and then added a haze to create a glow over the peonies. I then added a white vignette to remove any trace of the background images.

Below are my submissions from the previous weeks for comparison.

Vase of Yesteryear - Week 3

Having adjusted the colours for the first week, then changing the photo to sepia last week, I couldn’t help but wonder what the result of combining the two would be.

A mask was created over the flowers again. This time I adjusted the hue, endeavouring to bring out the pink in the peonies. A mask was then created over the remainder of the photo to change the colour to grey tones, with a vignette once again added.

Vase of Yesteryear (One-Four-Challenge: Week 2)

Here is my submission for Week 2 of the One Four Challenge hosted by Robyn Gosby at Captivate Me.

Vase of Yesteryear - Week 2

Last week after brightening the original photo, then adjusting the saturation and contrast and rotating the photo slightly, I substituted sepia tones for the colour. However, the vignette I then added altered the photos appearance more to grey tones.

Vase of YesterYear (One-Four-Challenge: Week 1)

It’s that time again, time for the next One-Four-Challenge, woo hoo – oh, how I love this challenge!

This is my first EVER vase of peonies. Actually, it’s my first peony also. Someone once told me peonies won’t keep in a vase, they die immediately. Mine however from the grocery store lasted extremely well. Anyways, here is my effort for Week 1.

Vase of Yesteryear - Week 1

Below is the original which, to say the flowers were a tad in shadows, could be an understatement. Obviously I needed to first brighten the photo to see exactly what I had to work with. Following this both the saturation and contrast needed to be adjusted.

Even after this the colours in the flowers still weren’t strong enough so a mask (something I’m still mastering) was used over the flowers alone to brighten them. Then all that was required was to straighten the vase ever so slightly.
